The Ocean Friendly Restaurant (OFR) program helps restaurants minimize their impact on the ocean by adopting practices that reduce single-use plastic waste, maximize energy efficiency and conserve water.

OCEAN FRIENDLY RESTAURANT PRACTICES
MANDATORY PRACTICES

No expanded polystyrene use (aka Styrofoam)

Only reusable foodware is used for onsite dining.*

Proper recycling practices are followed.

No plastic bags offered with take out or to-go orders and utensils are provided only upon request.

Paper straws are provided only upon request.**
* Foodware includes dinnerware, drinkware, silverware, and ramekins/containers.
** Exceptions may be made for alternatives made from other naturally occurring materials and reusables.
ADDITIONAL BEST PRACTICES
(PLUS, choose at least 2 of the following Optional Criteria)

Discount offered for customers with reusable cup, mug, bag, etc.

All seafood must be a ‘Best Choice’ or ‘Good Alternative’ as defined by Seafood Watch* or certified as sustainable.

Vegetarian or vegan friendly options available. Sustainably certified seafood.

Water conservation and pollution mitigation efforts are implemented.

No beverages sold in plastic bottles.

Energy efficiency efforts such as LED lighting and Energy Star appliances.
